What Is Power Assisted
Liposuction Treatment?
Power-assisted liposuction surgery uses a specialized cannula that moves in rapid, controlled motions to help separate and remove unwanted fat. This technology supports efficient fat removal while giving the surgeon precise control over the shape of the treated area.
At Derma Laser Center, Dr. El-Attar tailors every power-assisted liposuction surgery to the patient’s anatomy and treatment goals. PAL may be performed on its own or combined with laser assistance when added contour refinement or support for skin contraction is appropriate.

How We Incorporate PAL Into Your Personalized Treatment
Power-assisted liposuction is a central part of TOPAL™, the signature technique developed by Dr. Ayman El-Attar. Rather than relying on one method alone, TOPAL™ brings together several established techniques, with each one serving a specific purpose during treatment.
The treatment may include:
- Local tumescent anesthesia to numb the area
- Power-assisted liposuction to remove and contour unwanted fat
- SmartLipo™ laser assistance to support skin contraction in selected cases
Not every patient requires the same combination. Dr. El-Attar plans the procedure according to the area being treated, the condition of the skin, and the amount of contouring required.
Areas That Can Be Treated With Power-Assisted Liposuction
Power-assisted liposuction can be used to address localized fat in several areas of the body. Dr. Ayman El-Attar evaluates each area individually and considers how it relates to the surrounding contours before developing the treatment plan.

Abdomen
PAL can remove stubborn fat from the upper and lower abdomen to create a flatter, more defined midsection. Treatment is planned carefully to preserve natural transitions and avoid an overly hollow or uneven appearance.

Waist and Flanks
Fat along the waist and sides of the body can make the midsection appear wider or less defined. Power-assisted liposuction can refine these areas and create a smoother transition between the abdomen, waist, and lower back.

Back and Bra Line
PAL may be used to address fullness across the upper or lower back, including fat that gathers around the bra line. Treating these areas can improve how clothing fits and create a more balanced contour from different angles.

Arms
Localized fat in the upper arms may remain even after weight loss or regular exercise. Power-assisted liposuction can reduce this fullness while allowing Dr. El-Attar to shape the area in proportion with the shoulders and upper body.

Inner and Outer Thighs
The inner thighs may be treated to reduce fullness and improve the space between the legs. Outer thigh treatment can soften prominent saddlebags and create a smoother line between the hips and legs.

Chin and Neck
PAL can target small pockets of fat beneath the chin and along the neck. Careful fat removal may improve jawline definition and create a cleaner transition between the face and neck.

Male Chest
For men with excess fatty tissue in the chest, power-assisted liposuction may help create a flatter and more masculine contour. Dr. El-Attar first evaluates whether the fullness is primarily caused by fat, glandular tissue, or a combination of both.

Power-Assisted Liposuction New Jersey FAQs
What is Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL) and how does it work?
Power-assisted liposuction is a surgical body-contouring technique that uses a powered cannula to loosen and remove localized fat. Unlike a traditional cannula that is moved entirely by hand, the PAL cannula makes rapid, controlled movements while the surgeon guides it through the treatment area. The loosened fat is then removed through suction. The technology assists with fat removal, but the surgeon still determines where fat should be removed and how the area should be shaped.
How much does power-assisted liposuction cost in New Jersey?
Power-assisted liposuction costs vary depending on the area being treated and whether additional technology is included. For a more accurate estimate, book a free consultation.
What is MicroAire power-assisted lipo and how is it different from traditional liposuction?
MicroAire is a manufacturer of power-assisted liposuction equipment. Its PAL system uses a motorized handpiece that moves the cannula rapidly while the surgeon directs it and controls the fat removal. With traditional suction-assisted liposuction, the surgeon creates the cannula’s back-and-forth movement manually.
Both methods use suction and require careful surgical planning. MicroAire states that its powered system is designed to improve procedural efficiency and reduce surgeon fatigue. Derma Laser Center’s website confirms that it uses PAL but does not currently name MicroAire as its equipment provider.
What areas of the body can be treated with power-assisted liposuction?
PAL can be used on many areas that hold localized fat, including the abdomen, waist, flanks, back, upper arms, inner and outer thighs, chin, neck, and male chest. It may also be used across several connected areas when more comprehensive contouring is planned. The appropriate treatment areas depend on your fat distribution, skin elasticity, health, and overall proportions.
What can I expect during power-assisted liposuction treatment?
Your treatment begins with a consultation and an evaluation of the areas you want to address. At Derma Laser Center, liposuction is performed in-office using tumescent local anesthesia, allowing patients to remain awake while the treatment area is numbed.
Small incisions are made, and the powered cannula is guided beneath the skin to loosen and remove fat. Laser assistance may also be incorporated when appropriate. Compression wrapping or a garment is applied afterward, and patients generally return home the same day following monitoring.
How long is the recovery time after power-assisted lipo?
Recovery varies based on the size and number of areas treated, your health, and the demands of your job. Swelling, bruising, tenderness, and tightness are expected during the first week. Some patients return to light or desk-based work within several days, while others need one to three weeks.
Exercise and strenuous activity usually remain restricted for longer and should only be resumed with the surgeon’s approval. Residual swelling may continue to improve for several months.
What kind of results can I expect from PAL, and can I see before and after photos?
PAL can reduce localized fat and create smoother, better-proportioned body contours. Early changes may become noticeable as swelling decreases, but the treated area can continue to improve for several months. Results depend on anatomy, skin elasticity, the amount of fat removed, and adherence to aftercare instructions. Liposuction does not correct significant loose skin on its own.
You can view our gallery of real liposuction before and after photos covering areas such as the abdomen, flanks, and thighs.
Am I a good candidate for power-assisted liposuction surgery?
You may be a good candidate if you are generally healthy, close to a stable weight, and bothered by localized fat that has not responded adequately to diet or exercise. Good skin elasticity and realistic expectations are also important.
Liposuction is intended to improve body contours rather than provide significant weight loss. Smoking, certain medical conditions, poor healing capacity, or substantial skin laxity may affect your candidacy. A personal assessment is needed before treatment can be recommended.
Is power-assisted liposuction safer or less painful than traditional liposuction?
The powered movement used in PAL can make fat removal more efficient and may reduce the physical force placed on the surrounding tissue. This does not mean the procedure is always safer or less painful than traditional liposuction. The patient’s health, the extent of treatment, and the surgeon’s technique remain the most important considerations.
At Derma Laser Center, PAL is performed under local anesthesia, which avoids general anesthesia and its associated recovery effects. Patients may still experience pressure during treatment and soreness afterward. All forms of liposuction carry risks that should be reviewed during consultation.
How long do the results of power-assisted lipo typically last?
Power-assisted liposuction permanently removes fat cells from the treatment area. However, the remaining fat cells can expand if you gain weight. Keeping your weight stable helps protect the result, although pregnancy and changes in skin firmness may still affect the area over time.
